My name is Moni Donaldson, I whakapapa to Tokomaru Bay (my dad) and Kaihu (my mum), I live in Koutu, alongside the Hokianga Harbour. During my Intermediate and High School years I attended Te Kura Takiwa o Opononi. Over my teaching career I have taught at Te Kura Hauāuru o Rāhui Pōkeka (Huntly), North Street (Fielding), and Kumeroa/Hopelands (Kumeroa). I then worked as a Resource Teacher Learning/Behaviour (RTLB) in Dannevirke and Pahiatua. Since Term 3 2015 I have been lucky enough to be a part of Te Kura o Waima and to work alongside such amazing students and colleagues.
In my teaching practice, I encourage students to take responsibility for their learning, in doing this I need to enable learning by setting clear and attainable expectations. Students also need to be encouraged to be themselves, enabling them to reach their full potential, in doing this I need to offer a motivating, engaging and rich classroom program. As each student is unique, and because of their uniqueness each student has different needs, therefore, I need to be adaptable, flexible and sensitive to each student’s needs. As Puawai works in a digital environment I am able to cater for the needs of each of my students, as their program is individualised.
